31 January 2024 – Via finished a whole week of ‘sucking’ drains in Lowdham. Thank you Matt. This has cleared the leaves from the top of and inside the ‘pots’ you can see when looking down the drain. we still need some of the connecting pipes ‘gulleys’ cleared (sometime called jetting). There are only two machines in the whole of the County that can do this so we’ll have to wait a little longer for those (we have asked!). Thanks to everyone who moved their cars so this could be carried out quickly and let the crew move on to helping other areas.

31 January 2024– NSDC announced that Flood Grants support now available

31 January 2024 – EA announced “The winter storms and subsequent flooding showed the brick wall, adjacent Southwell Rd which forms part of the cricket pitch flood storage area leaked. We subsequently undertook a structural survey of the wall and while the wall is structurally sound, repairs were recommended. For information, you’ll see our Environment Agency workforce undertaking these repairs towards the end of February/start of March weather permitting.”

18 December 2023 – £5,000 Grant Open

Applications open this week, from 18 December, if you want to apply for the £5000  Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Repair Grant Funding. It only applies to properties flooded during Storm Babet (19.10.23 to 25.10.23). There are other strict criteria. You can read about it here

24 November 2023 – Priorities Services Register

👨🏼‍🦳👩‍🦯🧑🏻‍🦽👵🏻 During the flood event in October some of our more vulnerable neighbours struggled to get some of the help they needed. There is a service that could help you, or someone you know, in a future emergency event, especially if it affects utilities like gas and electric supplies. 🚨🚨 The County Council hardship fund of £120 for residents affected by flooding has now CLOSED.

🚨🚨 Good news is that some of the grants available via the Governments flood response framework are OPEN. Please visit https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/stormbabet/ for information and links to the claim form process.

Help available includes:

  1. The Community Recovery Grant of up to £500 per flooded household
  2. The Council Tax discount scheme which is a 100% discount on your Council Tax for at least 3 months.

The NSDC kerbside collection of sandbags and aqua sacks scheduled for Friday 17 November (was at one point going to be Tuesday 31 October, then early November then was rescheduled until Storm Ciaran has passed).

Bulky Goods Disposal

The Council continues to offer free collection of bulky waste for households affected by the flooding. Unfortunately, due to changes in legislation, we will not be providing skips to properties but residents can request collections by calling Customer Services on 01636 650 000 or emailing customerservices@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk with details of the content of the waste so it can be correctly processed.please call NSDC Customer Services to organise bulky waste collection.

The Lowdham Grange Gauge is now working properly. It has stopped when someone vandalised the gauge which led to the false readings and the EA system automatically issuing false alerts / warnings.

Google Lens! A great way to find replacement items online! Google Lens enables you to take a picture of something you’ve lost in the flood and it not only identifies it, but then looks up where you can get a replacement (e.g. on Amazon), and the prices for comparison. This is a great way to identify exactly what you’ve lost get a replacement value and have an audit trail to give to the insurer.

Instructions

  1. On main Google search screen click camera next to microphone in search bar
  2. You can either leave the search function below the screen as just ‘Search’, (or you can scroll across and select ‘Shopping’)
  3. Click the Camera icon (or trolly icon) under the words ‘Google Lens’
  4. Take the picture and it shows some comparable options in a list below the screen
  5. Scroll down to find the exact match. Click and it will take you to a website.

🚨🚨📣 Government, County and District Help GOVERNMENT SUPPORT.
Update 4 Nov 2023 here is the link via NSDC to the support for people flooded by Storm Babet  which contains the link to apply for the £500 Government support
Update 1 Nov 2023. Having previously announced (link below) that flooded households in affected areas can apply for £500 to give cash quickly to help with immediate costs, it has been confirmed that Newark & Sherwood District Council will manage the payment – they will have a form on their website this week, if not by Monday latest. People without Internet can call NSDC and customer service will complete the form with them. The Government has also announced that Eligible flood-hit property owners will be able to apply for up to £5,000 to help make their homes and businesses more resilient to future flooding via the Property Flood Resilience Repair Grant Scheme. Weather – Please keep an eye on the weather forecasts this week. The weather is changeable and different news outlets use different models to predict what will happen.
